Abortion Pill Crackdown

Authorities in Northern Ireland have launched a crackdown on abortion pills being ordered online.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) raided two addresses in Belfast, and had a warrant to confiscate the phone and laptop of a person at one of the premises.

In response to this latest development,  Bernadette Smyth, the director of Precious Life, the leading pro-life group in Northern Ireland, stated:

“Women and unborn children must be protected from these pro-abortion activists who sell illegal abortion drugs, and instruct women to buy and use these deadly abortion drugs. The aim of their game is to rake in as much money as they can, even if that means exploiting vulnerable women and inciting them to break the law.

“Abortion is a criminal offence in Northern Ireland, governed by sections 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and section 25 of the Criminal Justice Act (NI) 1945.

“It must be reiterated that abortion drugs are not healthcare. Research has shown, time and time again, that these abortion drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, also endanger women’s lives.

“First and foremost, there is no such thing as a “safe” abortion. Whether illegal or legal, the after effects of abortion are the same. Since 2001, at least twenty-two women worldwide have died from fatal complications including haemorrhage, toxic shock, sepsis, organ failure, and ruptured ectopic pregnancy following an early abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol.[1]

“Women in crisis pregnancies need to be fully informed of the dangers of these abortion drugs. Women in crisis pregnancies need real help and support. Abortion is not the answer."
