Precious Life tells Jeremy Corbyn: “Butt out of Northern Ireland’s politics”

A draft version of the Labour party's election manifesto was leaked on Thursday 11th May and then published in full by The Guardian Newspaper. This manifesto contains the disturbing revelation that the Labour Party will show no compassion for women and unborn children. Within the document, the manifesto states, "Labour will continue to ensure a woman's right to choose a safe, legal abortion - and we will legislate to extend that right to women in Northern Ireland".

Northern Ireland's unborn children have been caught in Corbyn’s crossfire. How dare this man threaten our unborn children! Without abortion in Northern Ireland it is one of the safest places in the world for pregnant mothers unlike England, Scotland and Wales where the 1967 act is one of the most liberal abortion laws in the world with over 8 million little unborn children that have been brutally murdered through abortion in the UK alone since the introduction of this legislation. The people of Northern Ireland have seen enough bloodshed. Corbyn, leave our kids alone!

Bernadette Smyth responded to the manifesto saying:

"The decision by the Labour Party to include in its election manifesto a commitment to impose the Abortion Act on Northern Ireland demonstrates a shocking level of utter contempt for Democracy. We have the legal and constitutional right to make our own laws on issues such as abortion, which is a matter for the devolved Assembly at Stormont. This was made very clear in 2008 when the four main parties of the Northern Ireland Assembly signed a joint letter opposing the extension of the 1967 Abortion Act to Northern Ireland.

“This is an all-out attack on Northern Ireland's democratic process. The people throughout Northern and indeed voters throughout the rest of the UK must rise up in opposition to this threat by ensuring they vote only for pro-life politicians in the Westminster election."

In response to Jeremy Corbyn’s plans to legalise abortion in Northern Ireland, Bernadette Smyth went on to say:

"If the Labour Party were to carry out its threat to override the democratic settlement in the province in order to push its own extremist and unpopular abortion agenda, it would severely damage the credibility of the political process and make the existence of the Assembly meaningless."
