Yvonne's Story: UK Women and Equalities Committee

Back in September, we asked members of the public to write to the Westminster Women and Equalities Committee to defend our pro-life laws. Yvonne from Warrenpoint shares her story:

Written submission from a member of the public (ANI0144)

My name is Yvonne Morgan I live in a town called Warrenpoint in the Northern part of Ireland, our abortion laws saved not only my twin baby daughters lives but also my own because the guilt and shame for killing my unborn babies would have consumed me totally, and led me down the path of suicide

I reached a crisis point or one I deemed a crisis on 4th July 2016 the day I was scheduled for planned surgery and on the very morning of my surgery I found out I was pregnant, I thought my world had just ended, I had just got myself back on my feet after a bitter divorce 2 years previously and was raising my 2 sons as a single mother, I really did not want any more children.

Through fear and panic I contacted family planning association in Belfast who assured me they could help with regards to an abortion but thanks be to God I have an amazing group of family and friends in my life and one friend in particular called Anne who asked would I like to speak to someone from Precious life/ Stanton healthcare Belfast, and I said I would, so we called them up and it was Bernadette Smyth and Alicea Brennan who came to visit me at my home the very next day Tuesday 5th July.

These ladies offered me support and guidance and they reassured me every step of the way, I will forever be in their debts and I thank Jesus every day of my life for them taking that time to come to me in my time of need, and in my opinion Ireland needs more of these Healthcare facilities that support both Mother and her unborn child.

I am so thankful I live in the country I do and at that time the 8th Amendment was still very much in place in Ireland, through our laws and not having Barbaric abortion clinics opened here that gave me the time I needed to think clearly and rationalise things, our laws stopped me from acting out in sheer panic and stopped me from making the biggest mistake of my life which would have been to murder my baby which in fact turned out to be babies...

My baby twin daughters lives matter, my life matters and our laws against abortion certainly matter.
