Secretary of State warns he will take further steps to ensure more babies are killed by abortion in Northern Ireland
Secretary of State. Brandon Lewis wants to override the Northern Ireland Executive and directly instruct the Health Trusts to kill unborn babies.
In a leaked letter he warned that the continued delay in killing more babies is "unacceptable."
Brandon Lewis wrote to the First Minister, Paul Givan, and his Deputy, Michelle O’Neill, warning he would soon "...have no alternative but to take further steps..." to ensure more unborn babies are killed in Northern Ireland.
The Westminster Government’s Northern Ireland Office (NIO) could explore working directly with the Health Trusts to implement their provision to kill unborn babies if Stormont does not take steps to ensure they do so.
Lewis also had the audacity to warn in his letter that continued failure to kill more human babies could leave Stormont in breach of "human rights."
In a separate letter, Lewis demanded from Health Minister Robin Swann, a detailed assessment of progress to date and a roadmap to meeting the deadline of fully commissioning Westmister’s law to kill unborn babies in Northern Ireland.
He said NIO officials had been blocked from attending meetings with the department – which he called "unacceptable."
Killing babies in the womb was legalised in Northern Ireland in October 2019 after pro-abortion Labour MP Stella Creasy hijacked the NI Executive Formation Act by inserting an abortion amendment in Section 9, which was then passed by Westminster.
Earlier this year, Lewis took unprecedented action and used Parliament to give himself new powers to order the killing of unborn babies in Northern Ireland. He then directed Stormont to fully commission abortion before the end of March 2022.
This month, a High Court judge declined to compel Lewis to make more abortions available in Northern Ireland. Lewis said he was disappointed by the ruling in a case that was brought by the pro-abortion NI ‘Human Rights’ Commission.
In the leaked letter, Lewis warned Givan and O’Neill he was prepared to interfere further in Northern Ireland’s Health Service, saying it was "entirely unacceptable" to attempt to stop more babies being killed. He demanded, "I firmly believe that there is also a moral duty…[to kill more babies by abortion]...The executive cannot continue to delay in this matter...In fact, I would go further. Those in public office must comply…"
Lewis said if it became "clear to me" that the Department of Health or Executive were "not making sufficient progress, or are intent on blocking this issue, I will have no alternative but to take further steps..." to ensure more babies are killed.
