Election Information Evenings begin across Northern Ireland

Precious Life has organised a series of Information Evenings across Northern Ireland In the run-up to the Assembly Election. The pro-life group say their “RESTORE PERSONHOOD” Election Roadshow will name and shame the current MLAs who support abortion, and encourage voters to return only pro-life MLAs to the NI Assembly.

The first Election Information Evening was held in Belfast on Tuesday 1st March in the Wellington Park Hotel.

Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth told the well-attended meeting, “The Assembly Election on 5th May gives us our first opportunity - since abortion was forced on Northern Ireland - to vote for MLAs who will uphold the right to life of every person, before and after birth.

“Back in October 2019 while the Assembly was suspended, abortion was forced on Northern Ireland by the Westminster Parliament, through Section 9 of the 'NI Executive Formation Act'. This overturned the sections of the 'Offences against the Person Act' that had protected unborn babies and their mothers from abortion for over 150 years. Literally overnight, unborn babies were stripped of their personhood.

“There are currently MLAs in our Assembly who support killing unborn babies. They are not fit to hold political office. They must be ‘voted out’ of our Assembly and replaced with MLAs who will RESTORE PERSONHOOD to our unborn babies.

She added, “Our Information Evenings across Northern Ireland will name and shame the MLAs who voted against protecting disabled babies from abortion. We will explain how to strategically use the ‘transferable vote’ system to ensure only pro‑life candidates are elected. We will also distribute tens of thousands of our new Campaign Leaflets.

The Election Information Evenings continue throughout March at the following venues:

  • MAGHERAFELT - The Terrace Hotel - Wednesday 2nd March @ 7.30pm
  • BALLYGAWLEY - Kelly’s Inn - Tuesday 8th March @ 7.30pm
  • ARMAGH - Armagh City Hotel - Thursday 10th March @ 7.30pm
  • BANGOR - The Old Inn, Crawfordsburn - Tuesday 15th March @ 7.30pm
  • DERRY - City Hotel Derry - Wednesday 23rd March @ 7.30pm

Bernadette Smyth concluded, “Restoring Personhood for all our unborn babies must be the Number 1 issue in this election. If a candidate will not respect the right to life of a little baby in the womb, how can they be trusted to respect or uphold any of your rights. We urge all voters on 5th May to vote for life!”
