The Guardian Exposure: THE LAW
THIRD JOURNALIST ON 'THE EXPOSURE LIST':
AMELIA GENTLEMAN
During these past few months we have been subjected to an unprecedented attack of pro-abortion articles from The Guardian. Precious Life’s latest project, ‘The Guardian Exposure’, is all about challenging the journalists responsible for those articles.
Today we are continuing with the first instalment and the next journalist on ‘the exposure list’ is Amelia Gentleman.
Amelia Gentleman
Amelia Gentleman claims that “only 23 lawful terminations took place in Northern Ireland in 2013-14”.[1]
Where is the evidence that these ‘lawful terminations’ performed in hospitals across Northern Ireland were in fact necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman or to prevent a real and serious adverse effect on her physical or mental health?
Amelia Gentleman also claims that “opposition to liberal abortion law is one of the few things that unites Sinn Fein and the DUP.”[2] This is simply not true.
- Sinn Fein’s abortion policy clearly outlines that the party is in favour of abortion in cases of rape and incest.
- At its annual Ard Fheis on 7th March 2015, Sinn Fein voted in favour of a motion in support of abortion right up to birth in cases where an unborn child has been diagnosed with a life-limiting disability. The party also voted in support of a repeal of the 8th Amendment to the Constitution in the Republic of Ireland.
- In March 2013, Sinn Féin, with the support of the Alliance party and the Green party, signed a Petition of Concern which blocked an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill which would have prohibited commercial provision of abortion ‘services’ in Northern Ireland and closed the door on the Marie Stopes centre in Belfast.
- On 2nd June 2015, Sinn Féin, with the support of the Alliance party and the Green party, signed another Petition of Concern to block the same amendment.
We must show these journalists that we will not tolerate their sickening disdain for unborn children and scathing attack on the law in Northern Ireland.
