Mum would have chosen to abort if she knew her unborn baby was disabled

A mum is suing the NHS for millions for not revealing her baby had a life-limiting condition before she was born, saying that she would have had an abortion if her baby's disability had been picked up by ultrasound.

The Sun has reported that Amanda McGuinn and her husband are suing the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in a “wrongful birth” case at the High Court.

Amanda give birth to Matilda, who has 'profound microcephaly', in 2008:

"The condition, seen in Zika victims, stops brain development and causes intellectual disability, poor motor function, poor speech, abnormal facial features, seizures, low life expectancy and dwarfism."

Even though their daughter is "a much-loved member of the McQuinn family", her parents say that if they had picked up Matilda's disability before birth, they would have opted for an abortion and are seeking compensation for the costs of Matilda's care.
