Disgraceful: Westminster to fund abortions for NI women
In an appalling, disgusting, inhumane move against real equality, democracy and human rights, Justine Greening, minister for Equality and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, have announced that the Westminster Government will fund abortions for women in Northern Ireland. The move which has stunned and angered so many stands in stark contrast to the positive decision of the judges this morning in the Belfast City High Court, this afternoon MPs have not only disrespected and ignored democracy but turned their backs on all unborn children.
This decision has undermined and overruled the UK Supreme Court’s recent judgment that rejected an appeal by a mother and a daughter in their legal battle for women in Northern Ireland to receive free abortions on the NHS in England. Furthermore they will be using taxpayers money to pay for the dismemberment and poisoning of our unborn babies!
The stunningly undemocratic decision comes at a time where so many experienced practitioners and researchers, including Eamon O’Dwyer, Professor of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, affirm that direct abortion – the purposeful destruction of the unborn child – "is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman." Theyconfirm that the “prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”
Precious Life want to reiterate what Lord Wilson said, regarding the mentioned judgment, that it was not for the court to "address the ethical considerations which underlie the difference" in the law regarding abortion in Northern Ireland and England. Therefore, these MPs should respect the Supreme Court’s decision and butt out of Northern Ireland politics! Nearly 9 million little unborn children have been brutally murdered through abortion in the UK alone and 50 to 60 million babies are killed every year worldwide, including 90% of babies with Down’s Syndrome.
What double standards in a so-called "politically correct" society in which everyone is treated equally no matter what. Yet when a baby is in the womb the value of a human life is ranked based on their gender, colour of their skin, disability and cicrumstances of their conception. Every scientist will tell you that human life begins at conception.
Bernadette Smyth, founder and director of Precious Life, said that “This is an absolute disgrace! The Supreme Court had made their decision and the MPs should have respected democracy! The Court had stated in the of Vo v France [2005] that abortion is a matter for national legislation.” These MPs have blatantly ignored and attacked the democratic process in Northern Ireland. “Northern Ireland abortion law, the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and the Criminal Justice Act (NI) 1945, ensure that our mothers and unborn children are protected from abortion, consistent with the original meaning of European Convention on Human Rights 1950.”
The Precious Life Director went on to say, “Abortion is not healthcare. It is the intentional killing of an unborn child. It stops a beating heart.Furthermore not one international human rights instrument recognises a right to abortion. The law in Northern Ireland, and the DUP’s stance, protects both mother and child. In fact, Northern Ireland is among the safest places for women to give birth. Over nearly fifty years of legalised abortion in Britain, higher abortion rates have run parallel to higher incidences of stillbirths, premature births, low birth-weight neonates, cerebral palsy, and maternal deaths as direct consequences of abortion. In contrast, Northern Ireland of course displays lower rates of all illnesses and deaths associated with legalised abortion, including breast cancer.”
We encourage everyone in Northern Ireland to contact their MPs and express their outrage and sheer contempt and this disgusting decision that will lead to more bloodshed in an already violent world.
Precious Life will continue working to keep abortion not only illegal but unthinkable!
