Precious Life will protest Sinn Fein's Ard Fheis tomorrow to send a strong message to the party - 'Abortion? Not in my name!'
Northern Ireland's leading pro-life group Precious Life will be protesting the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis tomorrow (Saturday 16th June) outside the Waterfront Hall, Oxford Street in Belfast from 10am-3pm. Sinn Fein are holding a special Ard Fheis to amend the party's position on abortion. Two motions will be voted on in relation to Irish abortion law reform.
One of the motions which is to be voted on tomorrow at the Ard Fheis is literally “abortion on demand” for any reason, right up to birth. The motion supports the availability of “abortion without specific indication”, which means supporting the abortion of babies with Down Syndrome or other disabilities. The motion commits all MLAs and TDs to act “in line with the view of the ard chomhairle” (party high council) on the matter.
The wording of this new motion which the Ard Chomhairle is proposing to members on Saturday is this:
“This Ard Fheis reasserts that abortion should be available where a woman’s life, health or mental health is at risk and in cases of fatal foetal abnormality; “Supports the Joint Oireachtas Committee findings that it is not possible to legislate for abortion in the case of rape in a compassionate way; “Recognises that Irish women already access abortion services every day in other countries or through abortion pills purchased online without any medical supervision; “Accepts that abortion without specific indication should be available through a GP-led service in a clinical context as determined by law and licensing practice for a limited gestational period."
The second motion relating to abortion which Sinn Fein will be voting on is as follows: “Sinn Fein members of a legislature shall act in line with the view of the ard chomhairle which will be informed by the best available medical advice, when legislating regarding the limited gestational period.”
If these motions are passed, it will become a binding party policy both North and South of the border. The line about rape refers to a report by the Citizen's Assembly last December which essentially said because of the difficulty in proving that a woman has been raped, abortion should simply be given to women up to 12 weeks for any reason.
Sinn Fein have declared open war on the unborn babies and women of Northern Ireland - this was made clear when party leader Mary Lou McDonald and deputy leader Michelle O’Neill openly celebrated and shamelessly cheered on the future deaths of millions of Irish children and threatened the unborn children of the North following the emphatic yes vote in the Republic of Ireland.
The hypocrisy of Sinn Fein’s policies are now exposed. They can no longer claim that they are a party of equality, respect and integrity. Sinn Fein have no integrity; they have no respect for the unborn child, and this new policy will deny equality by removing the fundamental right to life for the unborn children of Ireland.
Precious Life are calling on Sinn Feiin constituents to lobby their elected Sinn Fein representatives and tell them that abortion is not in their name and that the party's pro-abortion stance will have a severely negative impact on future elections.
