Precious Life to say "Civil Rights begin in the Womb" at Civil Rights Commemoration March
Northern Ireland’s leading pro-life group Precious Life will join the coalition of pro-life groups attending the Civil Rights Commemoration March from Coalisland to Dungannon on Saturday 18th August. The event has been organised by Sinn Féin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights campaign. Precious Life said they will expose Sinn Féin’s “hypocrisy” in claiming to support civil rights while denying the right to life to unborn children. Director of Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said, “Our message in this march will be clear – ‘Civil Rights begin in the Womb.’ Fifty years ago, people marched for their civil rights, yet at this present time in history, Sinn Féin are attacking the most fundamental civil right of all - the right to life." She explained, “Sinn Féin campaigned to legalise abortion in the Republic, and leading members of Sinn Féin recently signed a letter calling for the decriminalisation of abortion in Northern Ireland, which would make it legal to kill babies in the womb right up to the moment of birth. This shows the downright hypocrisy of Sinn Féin who are claiming to support and commemorate civil rights while denying the right to life to unborn children.” Ms Smyth added, “We expect a large number of pro-life people from across Northern Ireland to attend the march and raise their voices to speak out for the most fundamental civil right of all – the right to life. Abortion is the greatest human rights battle of our generation. Without the civil right to life, all other rights are utterly meaningless. There has been enough bloodshed in Northern Ireland since 1968, without now legalising the killing of our unborn children.” Bernadette Smyth concluded, “On Saturday, we will expose Sinn Fein's hypocrisy and say ‘NO’ to their cruel and extreme abortion agenda. We will march for the most fundamental civil right – the right to life – so that Northern Ireland’s unborn babies and their mothers are protected from the barbarity of abortion.”
