-- PRESS RELEASE -- Date: 19th Sept 2018 Contact: Bernadette Smyth Precious Life hold pro-life witness outside Belfast High Court to say, “our laws matter.” Northern Ireland's leading pro-life group Precious Life will hold a pro-life witness outside Belfast’s Laganside Court on Thursday 20th September to highlight that Northern Ireland’s laws matter because they protect unborn babies and their mothers from abortion. The case involves a woman who is challenging a decision by the Northern Ireland Public Prosecution Service to prosecute her for procuring illegal abortion pills for her 15-year-old daughter. Director of Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said, “We will be outside the High Court to highlight the importance of our pro-life laws that protect both the mother and her unborn child." She explained, "Our life-saving laws, the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and the Criminal Justice Act (NI) 1945, ensure that mothers and unborn children are protected from abortion. We hope the Judges involved in this case acknowledge that abortion in Northern Ireland is a criminal offence and our laws must be respected and upheld at all times." Bernadette Smyth concluded, "Women in unintended pregnancies deserve better than abortion. They deserve real support and life-affirming options for themselves and their babies."
