URGENT Prayer Alert - Westminster Abortion Threat

-- URGENT PRAYER ALERT --

Date: 20th October 2018

I write this urgent message to you to ask for your prayers to help to stop Westminster MPs voting on a Bill that is aimed at legalising abortion in Northern Ireland.

On Tuesday 23rd October, Diana Johnson MP will bring forward a “Ten Minute Rule Bill” to repeal Sections 58 & 59 of “Offences Against The Person” Act. In collusion with BPAS (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) - one of the largest abortion providers in Britain - Diana Johnson will attempt to make abortion legal up to birth throughout the UK. Through her Ten Minute Rule Bill, they want to introduce across the UK, one of the most extreme and ruthless abortion regimes in the world.

Exploiting the result of the recent Irish referendum to accelerate her own abortion agenda, Diana Johnson said, “…After the referendum result in Ireland earlier this year…the time has come to repeal [the Offences Against the Person] not just in Northern Ireland but across our United Kingdom. That’s why I’m announcing a Ten Minute Rule Bill, with support from MPs from five Westminster parties, to decriminalise abortion across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.”

What does ‘decriminalisation’ really mean?
“Decriminalising” abortion effectively means “legalising” abortion. Those supporting this Westminster Bill are seeking the decriminalisation of abortion throughout the UK. Even though the 1967 Abortion Act has basically led to “abortion on demand” in Britain – there are still some legal restrictions to abortion in the criminal law. But decriminalising abortion would make even the 1967 Act redundant by removing any criminal law against abortion – meaning that the killing of unborn babies would be legalised without restriction, up to and including the moment of birth.

No respect for N. Ireland’s democratic process
As recently as 2016, the Northern Ireland Assembly opposed any change to our laws.  Diana Johnson, BPAS, and other forces at Westminster are showing a shocking lack of respect for Northern Ireland’s democratic process. Moreover, they are portraying a disturbing disregard for the principles of devolution. Abortion is a devolved issue in Northern Ireland and we do not need outside forces in Westminster railroading over our democratic process and purposely ignoring the pro-life ethos in Northern Ireland.

It is vital that our MPs are aware of the extreme nature of what is being proposed here. I urge you to help us stop this abhorrent abortion Bill by contacting your local MP before Tuesday 23rd  - by either telephone, email, letter, social media or visit their constituency office - and ask them to vote against this extreme and horrific proposed Bill. It only takes a moment contact your to your MP, and the collective effect of this could potentially save thousands of lives and stop the horror of and evil of abortion from being unleashed on Northern Ireland.

Your prayer and action are urgently needed now to defend unborn babies from the barbarity and violence of abortion.

Yours in life,
Bernadette Smyth,
Director, Precious Life
