Precious Life welcome Kenya banning abortions at Marie Stopes
Precious Life welcome the news this week that "the authorities in Kenya have banned Marie Stopes from offering any form of abortion services in the country." The Medical Practitioners Board says it made the decision after investigating complaints that the group's adverts were openly promoting abortion. The head of the government agency in charge of approving adverts, Ezekiel Mutua, welcomed the ban and accused the previous US government of causing moral decay in Kenya by promoting abortion.
Mr Mutua said adverts Marie Stopes were running had "not been approved by the board and they were unprofessional - they were almost making it look cool to have an abortion". A letter sent from the Medical Practitioners Board to Marie Stopes on Wednesday says: "Marie Stopes Kenya is hereby directed to immediately cease and desist offering any form of abortion services in all its facilities within the republic.” Marie Stopes was also instructed to file a weekly report on all services rendered in its facilities for 60 days. They have broken the law, disrespected democracy and are trying to push their own cruel, extreme abortion agenda.
These adverts occurred despite the fact that abortion is illegal in Kenya. Like Northern Ireland, Kenya’s pro-life laws safeguard mothers and unborn babies. These laws never stop medical professionals from protecting a woman's life or health in pregnancy. Abortion ends lives. It is not healthcare.
This decision comes nearly a year after the Marie Stopes abortion agency closed its Belfast office. This was a massive pro-life victory and cause for celebration. When Marie Stopes opened in Belfast in 2012, Precious Life made a vow to ‘close the door’ on Marie Stopes. For the next 5 years that followed, Precious Life maintained a pro-life presence outside the office – sacrificing many hours in reaching out to abortion-minded women, thus saving countless lives.
Marie Stopes herself was a eugenics activist, who was friends with Hitler, “interested in creating a society in which only the best and beautiful should survive." This disturbing and inhumane passion for eugenics is reflected in the lucrative abortion industry where Marie Stopes in Britain, for example, kills 90% of babies with Down’s syndrome every year through abortion. Over half of abortions worldwide are female babies. It is predicted that over a quarter of the black population are missing in America because of abortion – with more black babies being aborted than born in New York City in recent years. Ironically, Marie Stopes herself opposed abortions and referred to women who had abortions as “murderers”. However, the money-making centres named after her slaughter millions of babies every year throughout the whole nine months of pregnancy.
Abortion – whether legal or illegal – is never safe. The Care Quality Commission exposed the unethical practises of Marie Stopes in Britain. 2,600 serious incidents were reported in 2015. In 2016, a damning report revealed that 400 botched abortions were carried out in two months. In a separate three-month period, 11 women needed emergency transfers - ‘one needed surgery and two required blood transfusions’ - to hospitals after this leading abortion provider, (often applauded by abortion advocates as a beacon of women’s healthcare), put the lives of these women in life-threatening danger. Not only do Marie Stopes have absolutely zero regard for the lives of unborn babies; they also disregard the safety and health of the women whom they claim to care for.
Northern Ireland doesn’t need Marie Stopes. Kenya doesn’t need Marie Stopes. No country in this world needs Marie Stopes. Marie Stopes is nothing more than a lucrative abortion chain which profits from killing the most vulnerable in society and putting women’s lives at risk.
