PRESS RELEASE: Precious Life condemn pro-abortion protest at Westminster
Precious Life, Northern Ireland's leading pro-life group, have condemned a pro-abortion protest, organised by Amnesty International, which took place at Westminster today (Feb 26). Among those protesting were two actresses from the hit TV show 'Derry Girls', Nicola Coughlan and Siobhan McSweeney. This protest was pushing for the 'decriminalisation' of abortion across the UK, including Northern Ireland, which means legalising abortion right up to and including the moment of birth.
Bernadette Smyth, Director of Precious Life, responded to this latest publicity stunt by Amnesty, "The word decriminalisation is a euphemism for the legalisation of abortion right up to birth. This would mean that pregnant women and their unborn children would have no legal protection through the whole nine months of pregnancy. These two actresses have collectively shown their political ignorance, in siding with Amnesty’s latest tedious attempt to push their cruel and extreme abortion agenda on Northern Ireland."
Bernadette Smyth continued, "300,000 citizens of Northern Ireland have signed our petitions over recent years. Over 100,000 people are alive today because of our existing laws. Therefore, Westminster and these actresses should respect devolution and our democratic process in Northern Ireland. Without the right to life, all other human rights are utterly meaningless."
Bernadette Smyth concluded, "The advert for the new series of 'Derry Girls' states, 'You only get one life. Find your voice.' Yet these actresses are pushing for the slaughter of innocent unborn children in the womb who have no voice, nor would they have a life if never given the chance. Life offers no guarantees but abortion offers no chances. Real love, care and compassion saves women and babies from the horror of abortion. The people of DERRY say 'Not in Our Name'."
