Press Release: Precious Life slam appointment of former Marie Stopes Director to Equality Commission

The former director of abortion chain Marie Stopes in Belfast, the UK’s leading killer of babies in abortions, has been appointed to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. Ms Purvis is one of six new appointments to the Commission.

Bernadette Smyth, of Precious Life, sharply criticised the appointment of Ms Purvis:

“This commission is supposed to protect against discrimination in all of its forms. The appointment of Ms Purvis to this commission is therefore deeply worrying, alarming and unsettling. Ms Purvis has made it clear, in her previous role as the director of Marie Stopes in Belfast, an abortion chain that takes the lives of hundreds of thousands of unborn children every year throughout the UK, that she believes in discriminating against the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society.

“The people of Northern Ireland must be aware that the appointment of Ms Purvis is part of an ongoing and ferocious push to force a cruel and extreme abortion regime on the people of Northern Ireland. Abortion is a barbaric and backwards proposed solution to unintended pregnancies, and the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland recognise this and demand so much better for women and babies.”

Mrs Smyth concluded, "Precious Life will continue working tirelessly, with the support of the pro-life majority here, to ensure that abortion is kept not only illegal but also unthinkable in Northern Ireland."
