The ABORTION PILL RU486 what you need to know

How does it work?

RU486, more commonly known as Mifepristone, is a series of pills adminstered in two phases. The first phase kills the baby by blocking a hormone that maintains pregnancies. The second phase induces the baby to pass through the uterus. This type of abortion is known as a chemical abortion and can only be used to end pregnancies that are less than nine weeks along. 1 in 3 abortions can last up to five days, which would leave you on your own to deal with the aftermath.

Are there any side effects that I should be concerned about?

Common side effects from abortion drugs include severe cramping, excessive bleeding, infection, heart attack, incomplete abortion requiring surgery, nausea, vomiting and even the death of the woman. A Food and Drug Administration report in 2017 found that 22 women died, more than 1,000 were hospitalised and nearly 600 experienced severe blood loss that required transfusions after taking the abortion drugs in the United States.

More than 1 in 6 women who use RU486 require critical surgery to stop severe bleeding. A study found that 1 in 8 users of RU486 required admission to hospital for adverse effects. RU486 has been known to have caused the deaths of women worldwide, including two teenagers in England - 18 year-old Manon Jones and 19 year-old Jesse-Maye Barlow. In 2011, a Marie Stopes doctor perforated the uterus of a woman during an abortion, leaving her fighting for her life.

In 2012, a woman who travelled from Ireland to have an abortion in a Marie Stopes clinic died in a taxi hours after suffering a heart attack caused by extensive internal blood loss. She was discharged despite vomiting and feeling dizzy, and displaying symptoms that “were not appreciated as potentially sinister”.

Also, Bimbo Onanuga, a Nigerian-born resident of Dublin, died in March 2010 of internal bleeding when, while undergoing an induction, the baby was delivered through a rupture in her uterus into her abdominal cavity. An inquest found that the rupture was caused by scarring and thinning of the uterine wall caused by a previous abortion.

Turned pro-life activist, Abby Johnson, who herself had 2 previous abortions, spoke of her horrific experience after aborting her baby through abortion pills:

"The only thing I could do was sit on the toilet. I sat there for hours…bleedingthrowing up into the bathroom trashcan, crying and sweating. My bathwater was bright red. It looked like I was sitting in the middle of a crime scene. And I guess it was…I had murdered my child...Eight weeks passed. Eight weeks of blood clots. Eight weeks of nausea. Eight weeks of excruciating cramps. Eight weeks of heavy bleedingThousands of women have had very serious complications. I saw many of them with my own eyes…I was one of them."

On top of all the severe physical side effects, RU486 can cause you major psychological damage:

According to study by the British Journal of Psychiatry of almost 900,000 women, those who had an abortion experiences an 81% increased risk of mental health problems.

You will be directly involved in the abortion because you have to take the pills yourself.

RU486 is particularly traumatic to women because they sometimes see their expelled unborn child after it passes through the uterus.

It is vitally important that you know these facts before making a decision
