Shocking: Nearly 1 in 4 babies conceived aborted in 2018 in Britain, new figures show
Conception statistics released by the Office of National Statistics yesterday (Thursday 5th March 2019) show that nearly a quarter of pregnancies among English and Welsh residents ended in abortion in 2018 – an increase from the already catastrophic figure of 1 in 5 previously recorded.
The British Office for National Statistics said yesterday this was the highest proportion since records began in 1990.
The numbers are devastating. One in every four children lost to the horror of abortion, their lives brutally ended before they have a chance to be born into this world. The astonishing figures revealed that, in 2018, there were 839,043 conceptions for English and Welsh residents and 200,608 abortions.
24% of pregnancies resulted in abortion, in 2018, up from 22.7% a year earlier and the fifth year in a row they have risen. The tragic and unthinkable reality is that for almost every three babies born in England and Wales, one is aborted.
For the first time since 2013, the percentage of pregnancies ending in abortion increased among every age group, with the highest increase (1.8%) recorded among women aged 20 to 24 years (35 per cent of conceptions in this age range lead to abortion).
The percentage of pregnancies leading to abortion increased in all regions over the last decade. In 2018, the highest proportion could be found in London at 27.1%, whilst the South West had the lowest at 21.6%.
The figures come as the Government plan for the implementation of legal abortion in Northern Ireland by 31st March 2020, following the imposition of abortion here through the passing of radical abortion amendments. The appalling new statistics are a stark reminder that when abortion is legalised and becomes regarded as socially acceptable, it quickly becomes a form of birth control, with the numbers of repeat abortions also spiralling year on year. Nearly 40% of abortions were repeat abortions in England and Wales in 2018.
Director of Precious Life, Bernadette Smyth said:
"These numbers are heart-breaking. One in every four unborn babies now have their lives brutally ended through abortion in England and Wales, which is a truly horrifying reality we all have a duty to address. These appalling statistics represent a devastating failure towards women in unplanned pregnancies. Abortion rates have risen for every age group and in every region among English and Welsh citizens, with abortion rates now the highest since records began. This is not only a national crisis, but a national tragedy.
It is clear that until the British Government stops pushing and funding the lazy so-called 'solution' of abortion, hundreds of thousands more babies will continue to die in the foreseeable future, and hundreds of thousands of British women will have to face the pain and regret of abortion. Instead of pumping millions into funding an abortion industry which treats women and their babies with contempt, there must be funding for life-affirming pregnancy support centres and perinatal hospice care services.
Unless the government stop funding abortion and start offering solutions like cheaperhildcare and cheaper housing, and until the workplace becomes a more understanding and supportive environment for women with children, we will continue to see more unborn children killed through the violence of abortion. We must come together to offer practical, realistic and truly compassionate solutions to women in crisis to stop this killing.
The statistics reveal a devastating failure of our society and the British Government to protect the lives of unborn babies and to properly support women facing crisis pregnancies. Serious questions must be asked about why such a huge proportion of women are having abortions."
With Northern Ireland facing the implementation of abortion on demand right through to 28 weeks by 31st March 2020, Bernadette Smyth said the figures should serve as a stark warning to politicians in Northern Ireland.
We have launched our ‘Repeal Section 9’ Campaign, which calls on our elected representatives in the Northern Ireland Assembly to REPEAL Section 9 of the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation etc) Act 2019 and restore full legal protection for all unborn babies in Northern Ireland. Thousands of petitions have been signed so far, and hundreds of people are helping us with this Campaign across Northern Ireland. We will continue to lobby tirelessly for the restoration of our pro-life laws and we will be calling for an injection of government funds in pregnancy resource centres across Northern Ireland."
