'I'm happy to be alive': Video of high school student thanking mother for not having abortion goes viral

A high school student's video thanking her mother for not aborting her when she had the chance has gone viral on social media. After it was revealed that she would be born with a disability, Carter said a doctor told her mother who was four-months pregnant with Carter, that having an abortion was still an option. Her mother, however, bravely chose to give birth to Carter instead.

In the viral video thanking her mother for choosing life, she said: “I was born missing my hand and when my mum first found out about it she was about 4 months pregnant with me. The doctor immediately said abortion was an option.

“I’ve been on this earth 17 years. I enjoy every day that I’m alive, and sometimes I get caught up in the emotions, but I’m happy to be alive, and I’m glad that I was born this way. I’m glad that God made me this way and gives me challenges, gives me things that I have to face. Every day is a gift from God and it just pains me that some people will take that away from their children and take their children’s lives"

Carter, 17, ended her video with a political endorsement: "So I just want to say, Trump 2020!”

“Without my mom and dad, I would not have had the opportunities that I have been given today,” she told the Daily Caller on Monday. “They support me in anything I want to try. Having been born this way, I don’t know any different, and I believe I am unique, not disabled.”

The video, which was posted to TikTok last Sunday, has gained nearly 40,000 likes and 1,000 comments.

Abortion Discriminates

The UK 1967 Abortion Act permits disability-selective abortion. Abortion is legal in Britain up until birth if a baby in the womb is suspected of having a life-limiting disability. Unborn children are routinely aborted up to full term in the UK for conditions such as Down's Syndrome, Club Foot and Cleft Lip and Palette. In 2018, 3428 unborn children were killed by abortion following a possible disability diagnosis.

Surgical abortions that are carried out in the second trimester of pregnancy often involve using a sopher clamp to grasp and rip the limbs of the child. The head is clamped and crushed and the abortionist must assemble the body parts on a tray to ensure no remains are left in the womb.

Abortions carried out in the third trimester of pregnancy can involve administering unborn children with a lethal injection to the heart.

In Northern Ireland, following the passing of the Northern Ireland Executive Formation Act, abortion on demand is set to be forced on the province. Under this new abortion regime, which is even more permissive than the law in Great Britain, there is no meaningful legal protection for unborn children up to 28 weeks, because of the repeal of the 'Offences Against the Person Act.'

In February, the Government released a consultation on proposed abortion regulations for Northern Ireland. The consultation document outlined that abortion will be available on demand for any reason, which will include for disability, with no indication that babies with the condition will have any legal protection whatsoever.

The consultation also states that abortion will also be available through to either 22 or 24 weeks on ‘mental health’ grounds. This will likely in practice allow for abortion on request for any reason, which will include prenatal conditions such as Marin's.

It will also be available through to birth for ‘fetal abnormality’ providing that ‘the fetus if born would suffer a severe impairment, including a mental or physical disability which is likely to significantly limit either the length or quality of the child’s life’.
