Shocking: UK Government spends one MILLION pounds on flying women from Northern Ireland for abortions
Since June 2017, the British Government has been funding women from Northern Ireland to come to Great Britain for abortions. Just how much taxpayers’ money has been spent on flying women over to have their unborn children killed has now been revealed.
Since June 2017, the UK Government has spent a staggering £1,000,000 on flying women over to have their unborn children killed.
Minister of State (Department of Health and Social Care) Helen Whately spelled out how this money is being spent: “The cost of supporting women travelling from Northern Ireland to England to access abortion services in 2018/19 was around £1.08 million. This includes the cost of the procedure and travel and accommodation. The cost of this scheme is met by the Government Equalities Office through funding provided by HM Treasury.”
One million pounds in just one year is simply breath-taking. Given that there were 1,053 abortions for women in Northern Ireland in 2018 according to the abortion statistics, that means that about a thousand pounds on average is being spent per woman on incentivising her to abort her child.
Instead of promoting life and hope to women in crisis pregnancies; instead of investing money into life-affirming resources for the thousands of women feeling as though they have no options, the Government have chosen to promote the death and destruction of abortion. The message is clear: abortion, and only abortion, at all costs.
What about women facing unplanned pregnancies who want support to keep their baby? These women are not getting this kind of free government money to make that sacrificial and empowering choice. Unless you agree to the killing of your baby, you won’t be awarded this kind of financial assistance. You won’t be helped or supported.
For many mothers, a thousand pounds could go a long way in lightening the burden of any immediate financial difficulties which often lead them to consider abortion. A thousand pounds could go a long way to a mother needing to pay bills or gather up baby supplies, but of course, the Government are only willing to “help” you if you abort your baby. The lazy and shameful answer to genuine crisis and need is to throw money at women to kill their babies.
We know that the Government does not fund alternatives to abortion in England and Wales. When asked, "What alternatives to abortion are offered by clinics which provide NHS-funded abortions when providing abortions which are so funded"? The answer from the Department of Health was: "The Department does not directly fund services that provide advice on unplanned or crisis pregnancies.”
There has been zero indication that the Central Booking System, which directs women in Northern Ireland to GB abortion clinics, offers any alternatives either.
The abortion statistics for 2018 also reveal that there was an increase of 192 abortions from the previous year. An additional 192 lives lost – babies who would be safe in the arms of their mothers today – because of the sickening and costly promotion of abortion. It is only logical to conclude that when something, in this case, abortion, is promoted so much and made as easy as possible, the death of a child is going to be chosen more and more often. Clearly, not only the funding of abortion, but the additional travel and accommodation costs, has made a massive, tragic difference to the number of women choosing the death of their child through abortion.
How many innocent babies have been killed because abortion has been made such a seemingly easy option, whilst life-affirming alternatives have not? How many women in the midst of crisis, have wanted to change their minds and choose life for their child, but have felt completely unable to do so, because the Government has already paid for their abortion, including the cost of travel and accommodation? It is a truly catastrophic failure of Northern Irish women, many of whom have now been left to pick up the pieces.
With the imposition of an extreme and highly permissive abortion regime, allowing abortion up to request up to 24 weeks, and up to birth for unborn children with disabilities, it is doubtless that less money will be spent on women travelling to GB for abortion. But this eye-watering figure is an indication of just how far the government will go in pursuit of an agenda-driven push for abortion, as a lazy, cruel ‘alternative’ to providing long-term, compassionate and humane help for both women and their children.
