Korean doctor jailed for drowning 34-week old baby who survived abortion
An obstetrician has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for killing a baby who "burst out crying" during a failed late-term abortion procedure. According to the Korea Times, 65-year-old obstetrician Dr Yun was paid 28 million won (£18,292) by the mother of a 16 year-old girl to perform an abortion at his maternity clinic in Seoul, South Korea.
However, the baby, who was almost full term, was born alive during the abortion and began crying. Instead of taking care of the baby, Dr Yun placed the live baby in a bucket of water and left the child to die.
"Medical staff who participated in the operation have consistently said they heard the baby crying," a three-judge panel of the court said in a statement. "It is clear that the doctor killed the baby, who was born alive."
The Seoul Central District Court on Friday 10th April suspended Dr Yun’s medical license for three years and sentenced him to three and a half years in prison.
Across the world, former nurses and abortion workers have revealed how babies born alive in botched abortions are left to die in excruciating pain.
Of the 200,000 abortions performed in England each year, approximately 10% of these – a staggering 20,000 abortions – are done to babies who are late-term, like this infant in South Korea. Late-term abortion is now legal in Northern Ireland too, through Westminster’s repeal of our long-standing pro-life laws. Under this regime, it is legal to kill a full term baby who has a disability, such as Down’s Syndrome of Cleft Palette, and abortion will also be available up to 24-weeks on request.
Not only will children be allowed to die in excruciating pain, but under the Westminster-imposed abortion regime, there is no mention of a legal requirement that babies born alive after an abortion are resuscitated or provided with medical assistance if an abortion goes wrong.
Cases such as this one are much more common than people think. In 2008, a UK report found that 66 infants were born alive after NHS terminations in one year. The majority of those 66 babies took over an hour to die in unimaginable pain. Without any legal safeguards in place for babies in Northern Ireland, there is nothing to stop the same from becoming a reality here.
Precious Life are continuing their ‘Repeal Section 9 Campaign’, urging people to contact their MLAs and MPs to ask them to pass urgent legislation to repeal the cruel and inhumane abortion law. Several pro-life MLAs have spoken out against the horrific abortion law at Stormont, appealing for an opportunity to introduce pro-life legislation to protect mothers and babies in Northern Ireland.
