52 years of Britain's abortion act: Over 9 million babies killed in England, Scotland and Wales alone
Today, 27th April 2020, marks 52 years of the British Abortion Act coming into effect. Since the legalisation of abortion in Britain, over 9 million unborn children have had their lives brutally ended through abortion.
Estimates reveal that at least 9,446,068 unborn children have been killed in abortion in England, Scotland and Wales alone. The mammoth figure is impossible to comprehend, but it must serve as a shocking reminder of the death and destruction legal abortion has brought upon society. The actual figure is expected to be much higher, since it doesn't include multiple pregnancies of twins or triplets over the last 52 years, but when we break it down, it equates to one baby killed every three minutes; 20 babies killed every hour.
According to the most recent figures. from the Department of Health, a staggering 1 in 4 pregancies now end in abortion in England and Wales. The abortion statistics through the years in Britain also shred the argument from abortion advocates that 'legalising abortion does not mean more abortions.'
The legalisation of abortion in Britain has resulted in a truly catastrophic rise in the number of unborn lives ended - Compared with 1969 (the first year of the abortion act) - where there were 59,819 abortions, there has been an eye-watering 270% increase in the total number of unborn children killed in abortion in England and Wales.
The number of abortions for women resident in England & Wales is also at an all-time high at 200,608, with the total number in the UK 205,295, the highest figure in a decade.
More unborn children can now be killed in Northern Ireland
The abortion act was never extended to Northern Ireland, resulting in thousands of people alive today because of the province's long-standing pro-life laws.
However, due to the introduction of a radical Westminster-imposed abortion law here, we are no doubt going to see babies' lives ended through abortion here.
The barbaric legislation allows and abortion on demand up to 24-weeks and disability-selective abortion right up to birth – including for unborn children diagnosed with conditions such as Down's Syndrome and Cleft Lip.
Repeal Section 9
Precious Life have launched a 'Repeal Section 9' Campaign to restore full legal personhood for unborn children in Northern Ireland. The Campaign highlights how the introduction of abortion has been persistently rejected by the people of Northern Ireland. Precious Life, in high-profile public awareness campaigns in recent years, have collected up to 300,000 signatures from people here who are opposed to any change in the law and want to see unborn children and their mothers protected.
Polling also revealed that two-thirds of women and 70% of 18-34-year-olds in Northern Ireland did not want Westminster's abortion law imposed on Northern Ireland.
Bernadette Smyth, head of Precious Life, who have been supporting women in unplanned pregnancies for 23 years, said today that these figures should serve as a wake up call for society.
“The statistics reveal a catastrophic failure of the British government, and society, when their response to women in unplanned pregnancies is to offer the death of their unborn children. It is an unprecedented national tragedy that over 9,000,000 babies have been killed since the passing of this inhumane abortion law. 20 unique, unrepeatable lives are lost every single hour at the hands of abortionists in Britain."
"Every single one of these abortions represents a tragic failure to protect the weakest amongst us, and a failure of women and families who deserved so much better than the death of their own unborn child."
Ms Smyth concluded, “These attrocious figuees must serve as a wake up call, and should compel us to keep fighting until every child in protected. With the over-due return of Stormont, Precious Life will be accelerating our efforts and we will be calling for an injection of government funds in pregnancy resource centres across Northern Ireland. The only practical, authentically compassionate answer to an unplanned pregnancy is to provide a service which loves and cares for both, mother and baby. Our work will not stop until every baby in Northern Ireland is protected and every woman in a crisis pregnancy is empowered to reject the violence of abortion and choose life.”
